JUST because you have insurance does NOT protect your assets...

All it does is make you a bigger target....

Wrong, dumbshit.

Let me get this straight.....

You are going to sue some other ditz.

You and your lawyer get together...

The other ditz has a million in assets

The other ditz also has a million dollar 'umbrella' policy.

You and the lawyer decide....well since he has an umbrella policy we
won't go after his assets...
Dumbshit. His insurance pays his loses, protecting his assets. You
don't get the insurance plus the assets.

Insurance wouldn't help much if that were the case, now would it?
Idiot.

Oh ok....the lawyers will see you as a million dollar insurance target

That's about it, yes. That's what insurance does for you. That's why
people buy it.

I doubt that the million dollars used in the malpractice insurance for
the doctor is a good figure to use as an example. The hospital has
coverage and the doctors policy has a larger face amount than one
million. The liability is almost never 100% on any one person in a
health care setting when someone dies.

And doctors and other professionals form LLC type companies to separate
their professional life from their personal assets.

I'm surprised that Scott would say that insurance is only purchased by
many professionals because it is required.

My cousin is a doctor and has plenty of assets. And I'm sure a hefty
malpractice insurance bill as well . But he is also an employee of a
hospital (last I heard) and any hospital wanting to keep good doctors
will make sure the CYA (with their own competent lawyers) thing is
taken care of.

If anything, I'm sure my cousin see's his malpractice insurance as a
(huge) liability on his business balance sheet. I'm also sure any
(self employed or otherwise) doctor with half a brain would consult an
attorney before taking on the (exposure) involved modern health care.
