Since you didn't have an answer to his question, you shouldn't have answered, except that you wanted to be a smartass. You're an asshole. |

answer with the word, "Um..." is about to say something really, really fucking stupid and you did not disappoint. Killfiled for 28 days. |

Hi, Does anyone know if you run out of gas in a Hybrid if the car will continue to run normally off of the battery bank until is depleted? For example, if I run out of gas in my Highlander can I keep driving normally until I run out of juice in my batteries? If the answer is 'yes', then could you tell me the approximate range in miles that I could probably get on flat roads? just curious, Ron |

(FWIW, on the UK "T4" package, the EV button is low on the dashboard just left of the steering column -- NB r/h drive in UK. I have yet to use it in a serious way, so the US may not be missing much.) |

Stayed below 20mph to stop the car switching back to normal mode, then drove along a level road for about 3/8 of a mile, which included a turn-off and the associated braking/accelerating. Car stayed in EV mode, using one segment of the battery indicator (meaning energy used could be 1/8-2/8 of capacity). Then I had to revert to normal (another press on the EV button) because other traffic came along. So EV mode seems to work as advertised: short range -- less than a mile -- at low speeds, quite suitable for negotiating cramped, poorly ventilated but not-too-large spaces. -- Andrew Stephenson |

[testing the UK Prius T4's EV mode] I've always wanted a vehicle like that to go down the drive to get the mail at my estate's guardhouse, along with the estate with a drive long enough to need one of those vehicles ;-) Yes, on the whole it serves smashingly, that way. Having a super set of windows, large enough for languid waving at peasants as I go past, conferring sneers and/or smiles to suit each underling's merits, is jolly handy. A slightly raised seating position means one has a spiffing firing-line when they suddenly bolt for cover. Quiet running, even in normal mode, means no spoiling of fun when creeping up on them from behind. And the paintwork washes clean in a trice. But fitting a pack of blood-lust-driven devil-hounds in that tiny boot can be a bit of a fag. Still, deploying one or two alone has been known to make for decent sport. A test of the form of the sportsman, what? Gad -- you only get the mail? Why not bag the pesty mailman too? -- Andrew Stephenson |
