The whole point of the post was to point out that Merry Christmas has NOTHING to do with religion! It has to do with a Federal Holiday. Christmas was designated a Federal Holiday! Yes, but the offense caused by the official government sponsored holiday spirit arises from the religious connotation of the greeting. Whether or not the official name of the holiday, the problem with it arises out of religion, therefore any discussion of the problems caused has to include the religious implications. Do you say something like "Have a good Feast" for Thanksgiving? No. Do you say Happy Signing of the Decalration? No. Saying Merry Christmas is nothing more than recognizing that Christmas is a Federal Holiday, just like ANY other Federal Holiday. so there. No, I don't. But, if I lose the battle to keep Christmas as the name of the existing Federal Holiday, then I'll soon lose the same fight over Easter and Thanksgiving, and perhaps even Independance Day -- the Declaration of Independence invokes religion, therefore any celebration of this date could be construed as an endorsement, which is what the fight around Christmas is about. Those that wage the fight seem to confuse recognition of religion and endorsement of religion. The two are not the same thing, and there is no reason society -- government -- can't recognize religion without endorsing it. Well, you and I know that, but the PC crowd just sees God all over the place. I don't know how they do, I don't. I just get on these bandwagons to show the PC crowd how stupid they really are. But, *I* also get offended, TOO! So there! I was really offended watching WBZ-4 from Boston when they were showing the "Holiday Tree" (as called by the city of Boston) and they did a poll of people walking by. Some black guy with a do-rag on his head says, "It's a Christmas tree; it's to help us celebrate the holidays and gathers families around it." Knock me over with a feather!!! Then they ask a young (Mid-late 20's) white woman; "It's a holiday tree. It symbolizes whatever hiliday it is you celebrate." Bzzzt..thanks for playing! It is a CHRISTMAS TREE, you PC nimrod! The black guy had it right. It symbolizes Christmas! That's why it's a CHRISTMAS TREE! Arrrggggghhhh!!! (don't mind me. I'm just wrapped a little too tight today...everything I tried to do today just turned to sh!t...) /rant off |

Having said that, the Jewish people I know don't seem to mind when I greet them with, "Merry Christmas." The greeting is, after all, an expression of my faith, not theirs. I don't see it that way...I think you're wishing that -they- |

Well, I, for one, don't think so...you, however are certainly welcome to hold that belief if you wish. |
