The PC term is First Year Student.

Can't have girls thinking they're boys now, can we?

My GOD this is getting out of hand!

Post link please. I would like to share this with others.

I'll see if I can find it. I was listening to the news when I
heard it, and then heard it on the local radio while
listening to Rush.

Of course, it's in Amherst, MA...you know, the town where you
can't fly the flag except for a week before and a week after a
holiday...

First Year Students at Local High School are now Ninth Graders
AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - There are no freshmen at
Amherst Regional High School. Following in the steps of
several area colleges, 9th-grader is now the official term
used for first-year students.

Oh, ye of little faith...

The other day the Speech Police (my wife) gave me a bunch of
grief for referring to one of our neighbors as "the guy who's
crippled".

That's because its rude. I had to walk with crutches and a cane
for a year when I was a teen, and I hated being called
"crippled". It infuriated me.

Richard, everything offends you. Lighten up, man.

so you don't think its rude?

Fine then, arsebutt. Print that for others' perusal if you're so damn
concerned about it. Does it feel comfortable to call folks crippled,
when you take a nanosecond to think about it before you say it?

Arsebutt....You really have cleaned up your language, good job.

Seriously though, there are so many things we say today that SOMEONE
will take the wrong way and be offended. You say much more offensive
things constantly in this group and don't find anything wrong with it
whatsoever. It's too bad sensitive people have taken perfectly
acceptable words at one time and turned them into something supposedly
unacceptable today. If I said "the cat/dog/deer/turtle etc. that's
crippled" would that be considered rude and vulgar also? I would hope
the way you say something or the intention behind it should be
considered when deeming offensive behavior.

Me, too. A friend and I rolled a 67 Beetle,ha.(He was unscathed).
Of course that's different than having Polio or something.

I used the word myself. Somebody would call and want to go do something
and I'd say can't do it, I'm too crippled up, mannn.

Why not say "the guy who walks with crutches" or >something? You're a
smart guy -- without too much extra mental >effort you can find another

political corectness.

I resented it whenever someone used the word cripple with a connotation of
pity. But that's their problem. It's not the word, it's the connotation
given it.

You can say it, if you want to sound like an ass >hole.

We should'nt let ignorant people ruin words. We'll just have to keep
changing them. In 10 yrs we'll be looking for a replacement to
"disabled".

No for Christ's sake it's just a friggin WORD which means that
your limbs don't work for whatever reason...why should a
descriptive word be offensive?...if you're stupid and someone
calls you 'stupid' then why should you be offended?, he's merely
telling you the truth. Likewise, if your limbs don't work then
he's merely describing your condition...I really get annoyed when
someone get's annoyed for such a stupid reason...(pardon the pun)

Crippled is a perfectly good term, just because you find it offensive
doesnt mean its wrong. If I was to call a short person short they might
find it offensive but i wouldnt be wrong to say it and why should i
pussyfoot about trying to make it sounds less offensive, why not just
accept what you are and stop putting the blame for your bad feelings on
other people. Ive things about me i dont like, people point them out
and i could take offense but i realise they are simply mentioning the
truth and dont mean offense, so i chuckle about it with them. Its all
down to common sense and not taking yourself too seriously.

Calling someone a cripple in a derogatory way is just like anything
else.
Unacceptable.
However, calling someone crippled because they are is a different game.
If I said, "he is black", it is different to "dirty black bastard".
If I say "ask dave he is Jewish" on a question about Judeasism, it is
different to "dirty stinking Jew".

If some one said "Carl is the white guy over there", fine no worries, if
they said "Oh Carl, yeah, just another white fat fucker", I would be
offended.
Just pure common sense of course...
