Seems the term 'freshman' is 'gender biased' so some schools in the area have dropped it. The PC term is First Year Student. Can't have girls thinking they're boys now, can we? My GOD this is getting out of hand! |

I'll see if I can find it. I was listening to the news when I heard it, and then heard it on the local radio while listening to Rush. Of course, it's in Amherst, MA...you know, the town where you can't fly the flag except for a week before and a week after a holiday... First Year Students at Local High School are now Ninth Graders AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS (WWLP) - There are no freshmen at Amherst Regional High School. Following in the steps of several area colleges, 9th-grader is now the official term used for first-year students. http://www.wwlp.com/news2004/story.html?artID=283164 Oh, ye of little faith... |

It seems this word is not allowed anymore in our politically correct society. |
