The one I was talking about was a 4 door sedan, in metalic mint green, the
same color as the cars in My Cousin Vinnie. Missouri license plates,
registered in Sedalia. I still have the 1975 plates.

According to this:
<http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z7045/default.aspx>

"Chevrolet was catching up in the horsepower battle. In 1966, the 283
and 327 cubic-inch engines were no longer being offered. Rather, the
396 became the standard engine with the horsepower outputting between
325 to 375 depending on the configuration. The greater the horsepower
the vehicles received, the greater the need to modify the other
components of the vehicle. All Chevelles were outfitted with stiffer
springs and shocks to counter handling problems."

It wasn't an SS, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a 396.

In 50 years, we bought over a dozen cars from them. Yeah, they gave me the
car back. And then sold me, personally 4 more.

Remember, Hachi, I bought most of these vehicles USED and the mileage is the
last mileage on the odometer when we sold it. And there were at one time 5
people driving Toyotas in our extended family.

Right now there are 4.

And I bought most of mine new with 8-12 miles.

When I say I've gone about 1,000,000 miles, I *MEAN* I've gone 1,000,000
miles!!!

So you've been to the moon and back twice? Did you see Jim Lovell? <g>

save
time! Seriously though, I remember when my sister
leased her last Grand Am, before she bought the one she has now. They
offered us an electronic rust protection module, for around $300 (if
memory
serves), which we declined at the time, thinking it was brand new
technology, which was unproven, and made no sense (at least, according to
the not-so-informed salesperson). Then, last year, our Canadian Tire
(equivalent to USA's AutoZone, from what I hear) starts selling them at
$199
like hot-cakes. Had any experience with these?

No direct experience with these, Knight, but I have experience in
'cathodic
protection'
which is the same principle applied to industrial structures, tanks, etc.
The technology
works only where there is uniform contact with the electrolyte involved...
Just being
wet doesnt mean the surface will be exposed to the protective current.

IMO, they have a basis in truth, but I dont believe they would be
effective
in many
places that are susceptible to corrosion.
I actually don't know much about it myself, and I don't know anyone who has
ever had one, but I have heard it is the same unit they put on the
snow-plows up here, and I have never seen a snow plow with rust on it. ;-)
Still, IMHO, rust proofing is the way to go.

The Japanese attacking us apparently doesn't mean much to some either.

Are you talking about the successful economics of modern day Japan, or
their
day of infamy in 1941?

We gave them a heck of a defeat back then. It wasnt brag, just fact.

If we want to win economically, it will again have to be no brag, just
fact.

Well it looks like another war is on, all traitors will be rewarded with
a
brand new Toyota.

Where do I sign up?

Really. Bet Mr 80Knight owned a VW Beetle in his past, too.
Nope.

Quote:
The Brainwashed over in the GM forum don't get it. Why people bought
Model T's in the early 1920's, VW's in the 60's and started buying Toyotas
in the 1970's is something GM and its cohorts will never understand. We
celebrate the absence of fancy options. WE DON'T WANT THEM. We want a
basic machine that will get up, go and keep going.
LOL! What you mean is *you* don't want them. Though, having read your posts,
I can understand you having problems trying to figure out such complex
options as power windows and locks. Don't get those power mirrors, they are
a real bitch to work!

Quote:
GM has always had a structure where you often had to get certain options
packages to get stuff you wanted, but you got stuff you didn't want, too.
For instance, when I bought my S-10 in 1995, I wanted a 5 speed, so I had
to get the 2.2 engine and the short cab. Had I wanted the 4.3 engine, I
would have had to get the longer cab and an auto tranny, which added so
much weight that the performance was actually worse than my little 2.2.
And in order to get the 4.3 that actually had any get up and go, I would
have had to pay over 20,000, when the base S-10 with the 5 speed actually
cost just over 10,000. We had similar problems trying to buy a new Chevy
in 1973, so GM is still practicing its same old tricks.
You are a moron.

Nope - I'd love to drive an American car again. I really would like to
see
them rebound.

Me too, Natalie, me too.

Sorry, guys. I am more than happy with my Toyotas.
After 10-12 of them, it's tough to even consider anything else.
Even the $200 beaters have been bulletproof, with 'repairs' cheap and
easy.
You have the right to own and drive what ever it is you want. However, how
would GM going under help you to own a Toyota?
