Default 1989 Passat 1.6 TD Estate - 01-31-2004 , 09:57 AM

Hi ,
Just bought a 1989 Passat DT Estate, mainly for lugging stuff up and down
the motorway from Marlow to Manchester while we prepare to move in a while.
It's a 1.6 with 143K on the clock, lot of history and general good nick.

I know it'll be slowish, but what other problems am I likely to encounter
with one of these? Anyone any opinions, good or bad about them?

Cheers

CC

Hmm 'DT' model - I guess you should ignore any shakes then.
Probably will have to think what you're going to buy with the money you're
saving in fuel costs.

They're pretty reliable - well, reliable anyway, but the jury's out with me
on the 'pretty'. You could do a precautionary oil and filter change unless
you know it's been done in the last few thousand miles, and check it over
for even tyre wear and odd noises. If you're going to be driving heavily
loaded make sure the brakes are decent too. It's a good motorway cruiser.

Cheers for the info Dave. It's just needed to be reliable and cheap for a
while. No other niceties needed :-)

It's got 9 months MOT on it, and a lot of history.
