The cost of servicing & MOTing my 1989 Golf Mk2 8v is has increased over the years to £500-700. Time to scrap it or is it worth anything ? |

My experience of MK2s is that they generally cost buttons to run - oil changes, brakes and tyres are all that normally needs doing. If it's a GTI, it'll be worth about £600-£1000. If it's a normal 1.8 Driver or similar, it's worth more as a runner than as scrap. |

Sorry, meant to say it's a GTi The prices similar unrestored/uncustomised cars go for on eBay appears to be signifcantly less than £600-1000. £300 seems to the lower limit for a GTI, even without tax and test. £600 is usually taken as the bottom price for something worth having - ie, little rust, clean and polished, with some service history. Some parts also sell for very good money - the 15" BBS wheels are worth £150 a set, and unworn interiors can fetch good money too, if they're in the right pattern. The power steering kit on your car is a rare (and sought after) option, and worth around £150 on its own. If it's a three door, it's worth slightly more than a 5. On the other hand, scrapping the car would probably get you about £100. Depending on how cosmetically good the car is, and how well the welding has been done (there's really no reason for anyone to buy a badly patched up MK2 Golf), you should be able to fetch reasonable money for it. Post 90 models fetch the best money (bigger bumpers, different body kits, often have 16V rainbow seats which are ££), Post 88s have no front quarter lights, and I think pre 88 they all ran K-jet, which is a bit more tunable. |

That would depend upon the condition etc I suppose. gypp It is probably not depreciating in value . |
