got a Passat from 2002 and have been very bored and been browsing the
interne, which normally ends up in me spending money :-)

I`ve seen some LED sidelight bulbs that are apparently street legal but
brighter than normal filament bulbs - anyone actually seen them, and are
they any good? And a similar question for some replacement brake bulbs i`ve
seen that light up quicket than filament bulbs, giving slightly more notice
to the vehicle behind you that you`ve just stood on the brakes, with the
hope that the extar notice prevents you being rear-ended. I know it`s a
fraction of a second, but that could work out to be a few m in distance
travelled depending on the speeds involved.

Anyone got any opinions, other than to find something more productive to do
with my time? ;-)

is that they rarely fail, so it saves you the hassle of replacing
filament bulbs.

On the other hand, the effective viewing angle is significantly smaller,
meaning it can sometimes be harder for drivers not directly aligned with
the lens to see the light.

Modern clusters designed for LED bulbs use reflectors to get around
this, to varying degrees of success.
