Default Mk 4 wipers - 08-03-2009 , 08:13 AM

The front wipers on my 1.6SE have slowed down a lot. Even on fast wipe
they are barely usable. This is also true with the wipers off the screen.

The rear wiper works fine, so the relay behind the dash is OK?

The delayed wipe still works, so the delay wipe relay is OK?

That leaves the wiper motor. Is there anything else to check before I
change it?

Nick

It is the wiper linkage- where the arms attach. It is seized. Take it
apart and grease it, or buy a new one.

I second Chris's advice, as I had exactly the same problem. Its located
behind the schuttle panel under\along the windscreen. I took mine out
cleaned and greased them and worked fine for a further 6 months. I know
a few people who had the same problem but there wipers continued working
to this day. I decided to replace mine I think it was about£15/20 might
be wrong but works great now. Especially with this lovely summer we're
having.

I'll third that. My V6 had the same problem. It's an hours job, take
apart, sand down then grease and they will be fine.

Thank you gentlemen. I splashed out on a new linkage assembly today and
it has fixed the problem. In fact I can't remember when the wipers last
worked so well!

The drivers side on the old one was seized. It was so bad I couldn't
move it by hand. The poor old wiper motor must have had to work hard to
turn it.
