Default Mk IV Golf alarm/boot lid problem - 08-04-2009 , 08:13 AM

The car is a Mk IV 4-motion 2.8V6. If the car is unlocked with the
remote and the boot lid opened, after a short period, the alarm system
re-locks the car and then the alarm goes off (because the boot lid is
open. As you can imagine, this is particularly annoying when loading
up at Tesco, having to keep unlocking the car with the remote it order
to prevent the alarm sounding.
The problem is specific to the boot; doors left open do not
precipitate the re-locking/alarm sounding routine. Anyone had similar
on theirs and if so, what was the cause?

Thanks in advance, Jim.

HiYa Jim.

The Mk4 suffers from the rear wash hose coming disconnected and water
getting into the Lock/Alarm System.

Take a look at http://www.golfmk4.co.uk/rear_screen_washer_repair.htm

You are not the first.

Yep, it's probably got into the boot latch, where the switch is that
tells it the boot is open or closed.

I had a problem similar to this in my Golf Mk4 TDI, in my case it wasn't
the washer leaking. Where the cables cross over from the car body to the
boot lid, via that rubber tube, the tension had caused one of the cables
to be severed. If you don't find anything else obvious, check this.

All the best,
