Default Possible future costs for a '99 Passat 1.8T - what could they be? - 12-06-2003 , 08:13 AM

Hi.

I have a 1999 (T reg.) VW Passat 1.8T Sport (64k miles) - and was wondering
what future (major) outlay I may expect if I held onto this car for another
few years. I've heard in the past about 'turbos' etc needing replaced (not
sure if I heard this years ago, and what make/car it was referring to...),
and was just hoping someone could advise me what possible outlays I may
have.

Thanks,

Mark

You don't make it clear if you have just purchased the car or have had it a
while regularly serviced an all that.

Thankfully engineering has moved on a long way since the 70s, turbo's are
pretty damn reliable (touch wood) I remember when I was getting my 1st gti
17 yrs ago, loads of people used to whinge about fuel injectors, I have
owned VWs ever since, and other than silly windows on a mark 4 golf, have
had 1000s of miles trouble free motoring.

The next big service is 80K miles, so just enjoy.....

Mine's about the same mileage (though a little older). Cambelt at 80K is the
next big item although mine will need new discs and pads at the next
service - about £500 worth

I.
