A local garage used to import VW's from Ireland under an irish plate, they
all used to have dodgy history's probably used for terrorism but yeah
they offered to change it to a UK registered car. Mind you they were still
right hand drive. not sure about the rest sorry can't be anymore help.

A German friend of mine, currently resident in the UK, wants to sell her
German registered, German spec Mk3 VW Golf. I have suggested that she
would
be better off taking it back to Germany to sell there, but obviously this
is
a trip that will cost, ultimately diminishing the profit she will make
from
the sale.

So, anyone got any advice on selling this car in the UK? Is it viable? How
much less will it make over a UK registered, UK spec vehicle of similar
age
and condition? If you were going to sell in the UK, where would you
advertise
a private sale? Any particular dealer you would go to? Given that she's
looking to upgrade to something better and UK registered, is it worth
trying
to part-exchange it as part of a UK based deal?

I don't know the year or exact spec of the vehicle. It's red - lighter in
some places than others because it's suffering from paint fade.

TIA.
Assuming it is LHD, Its value would be very low in this country. If she
doesn't want to take it back to BRD, her best bet might be a squaddie who's
about to get posted over there.

Speaking as the owner of a lovely LHD Mk2 Golf, I'd say sell it in Europe. I
was offered ?900 for my '85 GTi in Greece, but it'd cost me about ?600 to
get it there. It's now off to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Shame really, LHD Golfs always drive better than RHD ones.

Yup, it's got a decent MFA stalk (but they're only swappable if you've got
VDO gauges and the hazard light is on the dash, not the column)
it's got a near mint RH seat (but it's black with grey stripes), not got
parcel shelf supports, but I have got a couple of decent shelves. (one black
original VW, and a dark grey acoustic one with holes for 6x9s).

The whole car isn't bad, Bilsteins on the back, decent tyres, x drilled rear
discs...

That's the one, rip it out before you scrap it.

Don't care, seat covers will sort that. Will the seat belt buckle Still
fix onto that seat?

Got a 6x9 shelf but I'll have the original shelf off you

Hmmmm, got bilsteins already all round. What wheels you got? Alloys or
steel? Might be interested in the discs.

Tell you what, I'll give you a ton and I'll collect?

Seatbelts work fine!

6x14" Steels, but I've got some Pirelli "P" wheels somewhere.
