My T4 has done nearly 89K. It is a 1998 non turbo 1.9 diesel and
suddenly I am finding when I go to change into 5th gear I am getting
3rd again instead. I can drive it but I have to really push the lever
into the slot to get 5th. Anyone got any idea what the problem is?

Could there be a problem with the gear linkages ?

The Nylon/Plastic Parts of Linkage near the Gear-box and the likely the
Combined Plastic and Rubber Bushing at the End of Selector Rod are required
Replacement. Mien was at similar Mileage.

Costs of Parts is so-so but the Costs for ManPower....
btw it is impossible for DIY as I have tried! You are likely charged by any
VW Garage for 2-3 Hours
