Default White smoke - 09-27-2009 , 07:45 PM

Startde my mk4 golf 1.6 16v 01 up this morning and got about 10 seconds
of pure white smoke out of the exhaust which disaapeared quickly.

Very alarmed by it as it never ever does anything like this.

Any idea what could cause this ?

Water in the cylinders or exhaust being burnt off.

Check your water levels in the header tank, if they are down suspect
head gasket. If they are still where they were, then you'd got an
exhaust full of water.

If it had not been run for a while and it's the first cold night of
the season, that would explain it too. Look back when you are
accelerating hard, do you see it? Probably normal... I wouldn't worry
unless it gets worse.
