Default wobbly door handle - big job? - 01-29-2004 , 05:47 AM

As a complete novice, would I be ill-advised to try fixing my wobbly (Golf)
door handle (ext) myself? I guess it's a matter of removing the door panel
to get at a couple of screws...is that a tricky job? Do you need special
tools? Is it easy to damage it? Any advice appreciated.

Alan

Watch the door trim as it easily breaks at the weaker parts, unless you use
a tool the pros use, its a kind of BBQ prong thing that prys the trim away
from the door.

No need to remove panel:

Undo the screw that you can see at lock level when you open the door.
Push the whole door handle towards the front of the car abot an inch.
Withdraw handle from door, lock end first, dont loose the white plastic clip
or the shaft & locating spring.
You will need a new barrel, shaft etc, from the dealer, you fit the old lock
wards/springs to the new barrel, you can then use the old key.
