My father has recently retired and doesn't need his commuter car
anymore, so I have the chance to buy his 01 Golf TDI for $12000
Canadian.

Since it is my father, I know exactly how it has been taken care of
(babied), all maintenance once outside of warranty was done at the VW
specialist I use (currently have 93 Golf), and all the kilometers are
highway. The odometer currently shows 161,000 kms.

$120000 CDN seems like a fair/really good price.

Any opinions?

Go for it, that's a steal... Km's are high for its age, but nothing to worry
about with that engine.

You did make a massive typo at the bottom tho (120 K instead of 12K)

Your 93 Golf is probably getting about ready to retire (or sell to a devoted
older car maintainer) anyways.
