Default '99 Wolfsburg Golf is possessed! - 05-11-2007 , 07:06 PM

Hi everyone -

My '99 Wolfsburg is either possessed or has a bizarre electrical
problem.

I haven't driven it for about 24 hours. This evening, someone came
home and told me that my cabin light is on. I went outside and saw
that the light was set to only come on when the doors are open, but it
was still on. I went and opened and closed all of the doors as well
as the hatch and it still wouldn't turn off. I finally pushed the
switch to turn the light off completely. The light showing that one
of my doors or trunk is not lit up on the display -- so I don't think
it has anything to do with the doors or hatch.

I then decided to try and start the car. It started but then the
alarm telling me that my seat belt was not fastened started up and
would not stop -- even with me fastening my seat belt. When I tried
driving the car up and down my street, the seat belt alarm continued
and would sometimes get louder and then softer and then almost non-
existent -- but still on! I tried to wiggle my seat belt clip and
that too seemed to affect how loud the alarm played, but I could never
get it to stop.

What would cause both the cabin light and seat belt alarm issues? Is
it some sort of short-circuit or is there something else failing with
the electrical system? Would the computer give some sort of code?

Just trying to figure out what I can try myself during the weekend.

Thanks!
