Default Help on A2 tranny mount asap ! - 02-08-2004 , 02:14 AM

I need help on changing the tranny mount on my 91 jetta.
Can anyone offer any help or instructions on how to do this?
Would I HAVE to undo both rear mounts? I'm replacing
the hydro unit with a solid one from a diesel jetta btw.

It sounds like you are only changing the front mount.
If this is correct you can remove the upper nut and the lower two bolts, raise
the engine up enough to wiggle that mount out and install the newer one. I
usually use anti-seize on the lower two bolts.

good luck!

Next you will probably say that it is an automatic transmission too! <g>

IIRC For the manual trans basically you will:
Take off linkages to the transmission in that area.
Remove large bolt (17mm head) securing transmission linkage bracket to the
driver's rear mount. You may need a long extension for this.
Support engine and transmission!!!
Remove 3 bolts (13mm head) securing the transmission linkage bracket to the
transmission. They are through bolts and are on the other side of the
transmission.
Remove that bracket.
Remove the two bolts (13mm head) for the mount and remove mount.
Reverse to install. Again I use some anti-seize on those bolts!

No need to remove any other mounts.
Have fun! :-)

I found on my '91 GTI that the power steering hoses were in the way. I got
a really really long extension that helped out a lot and got the ratcht high
enough that it was out of the engine bay for getting a full swing/turn of
the ratchet. Otherwise, progress is s-l-o-w.

it'll be off to the scrapey knuckle club for me!
I'm also strangely fascinated by 3 hockey pucks and 6" bolts.
