86 golf Diesel, 181,000 miles. Left halfshaft. CVs worn out , boots not torn
but many miles. Maybe original.Transmission gearlube goes low every 2
years. I top it off . Take out axle shaft, inner CV boot full of
transmission gear lube, no grease. Obviously been washed out. On the
transmission shaft there is a flimsy seal covering the threaded hole to pull
the shafts from the transmission. Its a very thin piece of rubber which
wouldn't hold any pressure at all, and isn't supposed to.Its to keep the
threads nice, for the puller and is NOT supposed to have gear lube coming
from the hole.I cant tell if oil came out the hole by looking in it. but
cant figure how gear lube got in the sealed cv any other way.Vw says it not
supposed to leak there and was never heard of either.Neither did Parts place
for all VWS either, Its not drilled through. The center of the seal covering
the hole is inside the cv boot. the outer part of the seal is still
attached. Should I change the shaft, or put a new seal on, or fill the hole
with high strength sealer.rtv or aircraft fuel tank sealer or something
similar, No pressure should hold for sure.that's it. |
