Default Passat - Vibration - 08-11-2003 , 05:11 AM

Just a quick question,.
I have got a 99 Passat 1.6

When braking form a speed of 65 + mph there is a lot of vibration in the
steering, until the speed drops down to about 60mph. Im not sure what has or
is causing this, but a mate suggested I get the wheels balanced.

Would this cured this problem, as I want to get it sorted asap. Is it
dangerous to continue driving it, as the vibrations were so bad that it was
quite difficult to control the car and hold the steering wheel.

Any other suggestions as to what the problem may be appreciated.

Thanks

Yas

front brake rotors are out of spec? If so, replace them and the pads.

Because the vibrations only happen over 65 mph, the rear wheels probably
balancing. Before you do that (have that done), check your tires and the
speed rating, if you see anything wrong fix that first.
Otherwise, it could be that your hanging is completely worn out, don't
expect that on a '99 passat and besides that, it would also make the car
vibrate while braking.

Agreed, since the vibration is when braking. The rotors are probably
warped. Pads might not have any problems but might as well replace them
while the mechanic's in there. Wheel balancing can't hurt because it'll
help your tires wear more evenly, but that would cause vibration at a
certain speed range regardless of braking, cruising, or accelerating.

I agree too. I saw a lot of posting about the roter problem in other
vehicles. That cause vibrating and wobbling problem. Actually, my 4-
wheeler has the same problem...I'll check that later.
