I bought my 01 GTI used and I'm not sure where the code would be found. I am going to have to uninstall the battery soon for an intake installation, so I know I will need the code afterward. thanks Phil It is wherever someone wrote it. I have mine in my owner's manual on the shelf behind me as I type this. |

Thanks guys for the feedback. Here is little story if you have time please read. I am not sure if I ripped off as there is a possibility that single code can work with many other different Radios I had problem with my radio. Some time Cassette itself ejected and some time change direction while playing. I though there must be some thing wrong with cassette itself but that start happening on almost every single cassette I play and they usually work elsewhere. Finally one day cassette got stuck and I decided to take to VW dealer(My car was new at that time. I think I only drove it for few months, did not remember actual mileage). Service person told me that radio was no good and they have to replace it with new one. He charged me 150 dollars for new Radio. I asked for cassette and he told me that Radio has to go to factory and he can not take out and give me cassette back. That make me really unhappy but there is nothing I can do. When I left from there he did not give me any code number for new Radio and honestly I do not even know if I need one. Radio start giving me same problem after few days and I did not bother to go back again there because most of the time I have to drop off the car and really waste my time. I drove the car for two years and only use CD player and radio as cassette stopped working and I have one cassette stuck again in there. One day while was driving and it was snowing really heavy my battery got died. Towed the car to near by macahnic and he replaced the battery after that my Radio stopped working. I posted message on net and got advice there must be code that I need to enter. I looked at my car paper work and found a card with code on it, entered the code and Radio start working but point to note here is this code was for my original radio not for replaced one. So I think when I left the car with VW service they only pull out the cassette and did not really replaced the Radio and charged 150 for nothing. |
