Default Radio Codes - 02-11-2004 , 11:04 AM

Question on Radio Codes? Does every VW original Radio have unique
code? Is there possibility that one radio code work with other radio?

Thanks in advance

Yea, but only if it matches the one on the radio you have.

Check with your dealer. I don't believe it is the same for each
model/year but they can help you out. Some charge. I believe they may need
the serial number of the radio and/or the VIN number.

I believe there are some web sites that also have the information, but I
am not sure. I have a copy of mine in my home.

And while we're on the subject: Where is the radio code? I bought my 01 GTI
used and I'm not sure where the code would be found. I am going to have to
uninstall the battery soon for an intake installation, so I know I will need
the code afterward.

thanks
Phil

It is wherever someone wrote it. I have mine in my owner's manual on
the shelf behind me as I type this.

Of course as it is only a 4 digit number.

I would think that more that 9999 radios were sold.

Strange but every code I have ever seen started with #1.

In other words its not on a little plastic card like my door lock code for
my old Explorer was. Hmmm, I will have to flip through my manual later and
see what I can find.

thanks

Yeah there arn't that many codes. But they don't need that many. Cause all
radios that have a code system have a timer failsafe. You get 3 shots to
enter the code correctly before it goes into WAIT mode..... usually 30mins
to 1hour after that you get 1 shot till it goes back into WAIT mode
again..... each time you enter the wrong code the WAIT time doubles.... so
its not worth stealing cause even with only 1000 codes it could take you
months to unlock it....

The owner's manual package should have had a card in it with the radio
code. Owners are advised to store the radio code card somewhere other
than in the car. Obviously, the radio code card should have been included
with the car when subsequently sold. Ask the seller for the card.

That's not possible. I bought it from a dealer used so I have no way to
contact the original owner. But I don't know that it's NOT in the manual
booklet, I just need to look for it.

Don't worry, be happy! Since you have a 01 and need to replace the battery
the radio will pick up the code from the instrument cluster after the new
battery is installed. Start the car up, wait about 4 or 5 minutes, then turn
your radio on. Should work. As for how many codes, the numbering is from
0000 to 9999.

Enjoy
