Try retarding your ignition timing and than retake the test. As well, ensure that you have new spark plugs and air filter, as well as fresh gasoline. Run the car for a little while at full throttle to get the engine good and hot. - Peter "dave" <vwdoc1 (AT) aol (DOT) comANTISPAM> wrote in message news:20030625230631.21466.00001577 (AT) mb-m20 (DOT) aol.com... The part they said to replace was the EGR valve, its 300 + dollars at the dealer. Im not paying tha tmuch for a car I paid 600 for. Also seems that the hydraulic lifters are noisy as hell sometimes, and not even a tad noisy. its intermittent. Is there an adjustment? Hmmm I have not personally seen a EGR valve on a 90 Golf. What country did this Golf come from? Did you take off the EGR valve and make sure it was free and not frozen due to carbon build up? Did you check vacuum to the valve also? Sounds like the engine or the exhaust is running too hot. How is the CO and HC? later, dave later, dave Reminder........ Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
