Default Thermo-time Switch Wiring - 03-05-2007 , 02:29 AM

’80 Rabbit. Both wires going to the thermo-time switch light up a
test light when the starter is engaged. Shouldn’t one be a ground?
I’m testing on the disconnected plug.

Page 93 of your Bentley shows that the answer. A test light may not
give you the answer though. The R/BK is coming from terminal 50 of the
ignition switch. The G/W should be coming from the thermo switch
supplying a ground for the cold start valve to work. A test lamp may
not be good enough to test.

Some things get their ground from being bolted to teh chassis or
engine. Others get their ground from an electrical connector. The
Bentley manual is really the only sane way to do electrical work.
