Tappet noise after oil change

You can use 10 40, its better, your hydraulic lifters are bleeding down
after you shut the car off, and have to pump up at restart. That noise is
metal on metal wishing for thicker oil ......10-40 will extend your engine
life over 0-40. And your lifters wont bleed off either. 5-40 is the minimum
, bases on outside air temp, however 10- 40 overlaps on the chart.And is
recommended for extended driving conditions that keep the engine temp up.You
could mix it like you want but are better of with 10-40 where you are
driving...

For the 1.8T, VW recommends 5-40W. With the turbo, a synthetic oil is
also recommended. However, it's hard to find a true synthetic 5-40W
around here except for the Castrol from the dealer at over $8/qt. Many
VW drivers are using the Mobil 1 0-40W with no tappett sound problems.
In the spring/summer I'll mix 10-40 and 0-40 and see what that does.
