Default timing belt 99 jetta - 11-21-2006 , 09:34 AM

i'm waaay over the milage to have my timing belt replaced so right now
i'm just not driving it all together so i don't damage my car and end
up in debt trying to fix it. but my dealership told me parts and labor
would be around 800 dollars. now that just doesn't sound right to me.
any ideas on how much this should cost me?
i don't have the exact specs on my car infront of me because i'm at
work and didn't drive today but 800 dollars just doesn't sound
reasonable.

Not to bad for dealership prices, independent shops around here charge
about $700-900 for this job. You might want to check some independent shops
for a better price (mostly labor).

If the belt fails, you are looking at $2-3K in repairs. They can fail at
any mileage above 60K miles.
