variable RPM in POLO1.4 - 01-12-2004 , 09:07 AM

Hi..
I have VW POLO 1.4 year 1996.
Problem: When the engine is running but the car stay in place the RPM
indicator (i don't know english name for that instrument) is showing me taht
RPM is varying from about 750 to about 1000 RPM. What is the cause and what
is solution for that?
