Default VW Golf 1.6 (1999) MK4 Idle Problem..Help!! - 02-11-2007 , 10:03 AM

My Golf had an Idle problem about 6 months ago, the idle just kept
dropping below the idle point and the car would try an catch it but
just end up cutting out..it was leake it was having breathing
difficulties...

Took it to get the computer ran on it and was advised there is X
amount of problems (cant remember what now) and going to cost £8/900
for repairs..so went to another garage who charged me £150 and fixed
the problem..for a while (2/3 months) it was fine and then started
doing it again, asked the garage that fixed it, they advised something
to do with the air/oil mix?? and just to rev the car every morning and
that will clean all the rubbish out?? But the problem is still there
and getting worse..any one know what i should do?

Had a service 2 weeks ago, with a new air filter going in, it was ok
for a week but alls starting to go wrong again?? Dont want to go to VW
as they want £60 an hour to check the problem...Please help...thanks

..
check for vacuum leaks at the connections between lines and the devices.
maybe a line connector on the air filter box that was moved during the filter replacement
