I would suspect not because they sell a lot of cars with manual
transmissions. You would have to set the parking brake frmly and leave
the car in neutral for it to work. Imagine all the calls you would get
about that. Also being that they are German, they may follow the
European green ideas of minimize polution. Leaving a car to idle to
warm up is not very green. My water cooled gas VWs make heat within a
mile of leaving home when it is 20F outside. The diesel takes a bit
longer. If I lived where it was really cold I would just have a block
heater which lets the polution be at the coal fired power plant which
is still cleaner than an engine idling. Besides that a diesel could
idle for hours and not make any real heat.

Yes, U are right that Diesel Engine takes age to warm the System/Car. It is
Standard for VW with Additional Electric Heating or Diesel Burning Heater
(as in my Caravelle or EuroVan in N Am ) to solve this Issue.

I am hearing so many things about putting a remote start on my 99 A3
Jetta Wolfs. Some people say its a huge risk...others say as long as Im
careful with the car not being in gear I should be ok. I have also been
told by 3 retailers that it will cost me an additional 400 bucks to do
the install..am i getting fleeced?
