Just bought a 2001 C70 turbo. Great car, but I want to check fluid levels and had a heck of a time finding the auto tranny dip stick. I finally found what looks like a yellow plug deep within the driver's side of the engine compartment. The "plug" says ATF on it. My old 850 had a much more readily accessible dipstick. Am I looking at the right thing? It seems that one would have to remove several of the air handling pipes to get to this to check the fluid level, let alone add fluid. I'm almost thinking that there should be an extension on this???? Thanks for your help, Dan in Vancouver, Wa. |

My S70 2.5 LPT had 20K on the clock when I bought it 1.5 years ago. Its now got 50K. At 40K I had the transmision oil analysed and the report I got back basically said that despite there being no major problems with the oil the viscosity was now outside the limits for the oil type and had reached the end of its service life. I (well it wasn't really me - I just watched) flushed 16ish litres though the transmission till the oil looked the same coming out as going in.... My gut feeling is that the transmission shifts a bit better now than it used to (although there were no problems). I also installed a filter in the oil line. At 50K I had the garage change the filter and drop the oil out and replace - this was 8 ish litres. What they forgot to do was take a sample (as they had been requested)..... No appreciable difference following the 50K service....... Sean |
