hi all,
how much should i expect to pay for a new '95 volvo 940 fuel pump? at the
shop they told me 300euros which seems to me quite a lot; they say it's so
expensive because it's original bosh and there's no other aftermarket brand
that produces such pumps. coud that be really so?

btw i live in italy.

FYI a great place to check for parts alternatives is here:

I've never bought parts from them because of the prohibitve cost of
shipping ($50 USD minimum to ship to Canada + the cost of the part)
but the interface is easy to navigate and often it will show multiple
manufacturers, prices, and sometimes pictures to help identify the
part.

For example, for your car (assuming it's a non-turbo) they list 5
different fuel pump manufacturers with prices ranging from $55 USD for
the Airtex to $173USD for the Bosch.

See if you can track one of the listed manufacturers down yourself and
get a cheaper part.

That sounds about right for a new one, you can probably save some money if
you mail order a pump though or if you can find a low mileage used one at a
wrecking yard. Those pumps are dang expensive, it's a good thing they
normally last a while.

You can get a Walbro in-tank for about 80 CDN$, which will take care of the
in-tank AND the pump under the drivers seat. The Bosch under seat pump will
become a restriction after you install the Walbro, so it can be removed
altogether.
The walbro part number is GSS340

The P/N is FPG003 (a universal GM pump)- $108

This pump is a 255lph High Pressure pump.

There's a little fussing about to make it work, but you will save a ton of
cash in using this upgrade, and you'll never have to worry about installing
another Bosch secondary pump again. This is a very popular upgrade over here
in N.A, and if you go to turbobricks.org or brickboard.com and do a search,
you will find plenty of info on how to do it.
