I have two, both behind turbo motors. I'm not sure how I broke it, the
242 was running about 16 psi but I wasn't thrashing it at the time, I
backed out of my driveway, drove down the hill, went to shift into 2nd
and it was reluctant to go in, then there was a very nasty CRUNCH sound
and after that it would occasionally be hard to get into 2nd and grind
into 1st. I had a spare already and was busy so I continued to drive it
and eventually it got so it would always grind going into 1st. When I
dissected it I found the damage, but the face of 1st and the synchro hub
were so chewed up I'm not exactly sure what happened but I believe one
of those parts had a snap ring that was supposed to hold it in place on
the shaft which broke or otherwise came off and was ground up in the
gears, a few of which had good sized chunks broken out of teeth.

A lot of guys end up breaking 3rd gear in these when pushed beyond about
250HP, it's way out on the end of the mainshaft which is then put under
a lot of lateral stress which pushes the gears out of alignment and
eventually it skips and rips the teeth right off 3rd gear.
