I have an 88 245 with 311,000 miles. Two questions: How often should I replace the plug wires? I put in IPD high performance wires about 75,000 miles ago, and they still seem good and flexible. Is there a replacement interval on the coil, or do I just wait until it fails? The car is 21 years old, and I have yet to replace it. Thanks! John |

John Replace the wires when they're worn out, if the engine is still running right and the wires are holding together then leave them alone. I've never even heard of a coil in a Volvo failing. Not saying it can't happen, but it certainly isn't something you replace at any particular interval. |

Also if you can see the coil look at it with motor running in dark to see if it archs visably, I have seen them arch in daylight. Week color spark other than blue and misfire can indicate a bad coil, mine misses at 1800 rpm, dealer wanted 250. |
