Default Plug Wires & Coil - 01-20-2009 , 10:34 AM

I have an 88 245 with 311,000 miles. Two questions:

How often should I replace the plug wires? I put in IPD high
performance wires about 75,000 miles ago, and they still seem good and
flexible.

Is there a replacement interval on the coil, or do I just wait until it
fails? The car is 21 years old, and I have yet to replace it.

Thanks!

John

Replace the wires when they're worn out, if the engine is still running
right and the wires are holding together then leave them alone.

I've never even heard of a coil in a Volvo failing. Not saying it can't
happen, but it certainly isn't something you replace at any particular
interval.

I have one bad coil on a 02. There is a ohm test you can do. Also if
you can see the coil look at it with motor running in dark to see if
it archs visably, I have seen them arch in daylight. Week color spark
other than blue and misfire can indicate a bad coil, mine misses at
1800 rpm, dealer wanted 250.

James/Ransley,

Thank you both for your sage advice!
