I have been offered a 340 1.7 model of 1988 vintage. Having seen it, it is in v.g.c and had about 40k miles on its clock. Has anyone got an idea of a fair price for it. The vendor wants £1000, which seems rather steep to me. I have also heard that 340s are not as reliable as 360s. Ben Farrow |

The 1.7 Renault engine is as strong as an ox - maybe not the same as the 2.0ltr Volvo unit but ours has done 130k and is as sweet as a nut. [...] |

Well, maybe, but please do only compare it to non-Volvo engines then. -- The owners club 'suggests' 175k miles for the B172 as a reasonable life |

People here do not seem to particularly like the 1.7 340. Don't know why as it is a fine car if maintained well. |

Well, I guess if you only drive 5-8K(probably KM!) a year, anything will last forever. |
